The autumnal equinox this week reminds us that no matter how settled or stable we may feel in the moment, we are always in the midst of change.
Sometimes it is a dramatic change that completely rocks our world.
But more often, the change is something that unfolds subtly, over time. We don't recognize that the shift is already underway as it is happening. Instead, we arrive at a moment and notice that things are different, and may wonder how we got here.
Those of us healing from trauma can find change unsettling because we may have spent much of our lives in chaos. We often try to control as many things as possible, to give us an illusion that we are OK when we feel that we aren't. But learning to see (and embrace) the subtle ways in which things are always changing--just as the seasons slowly shift, day by day--can bring back a sense of stability. Like a flower unfolding slowly, petal by petal, we can begin to see the beauty in the movement of life.
So, we invite you to consider: What is unfolding for you right now?
